Virtual Lives

I found this article on businessweekly.com and i thought it was very approiate to post because it is about a study that was done about how people have virtual lives online. It talks about this online game that is called Second life and people can go on there and play with thousands of other people and live the life they want. here is the link to the article.

I thought this was interesting because in class we were talking about how people will create a new life for themselves online. Its interesting to me how many people actually live their real life by making up a new one online. The videos we watched about the young girls who created and connected better online with people then they did in real life is so different and fascinating to me because i didn't really think a lot of people do that but seeing their videos and hearing why they connect better or create a new self online helped me to understand why people do that. But i guess it makes sense because people can be whoever they want to be online and people may never find out. Like the song from brad paisley about man who is over weight and lives with this parents, but when he goes online he becomes this 6 foot tall male model who lives in hollywood. Its a funny song but its true, people can be one person in real life but then can be a whole new person online. Online chatrooms, and other communication websites have made it easier to "lie" about who you really are. I think it interesting how the article i posted above said that some people have even made a living out of living a second life online. I guess people feel more accepted online because they can express themselves more and be who they really are or who they want to be.
